1 Timothy 6:10-11 NASB
For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil,
and some by longing for it
have wandered away from the faith
and pierced themselves with many griefs.
But flee from these things, you man of God,
and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, perseverance and gentleness.
Hopefully you have parents that you can get well along with.
But it is also nice if you have older people in your area who you can ask for advice if you need it, for example a teacher or a club leader.
Paul is the counselor, the spiritual father, of Timothy.
We know two of his letters to him.
Paul always speaks clearly about his love for Timothy, but it also becomes clear every time that Paul takes Timothy seriously, even though he is much younger. It is nice if there are people who do not treat you as a little one, but encourage you to make good decisions.
Paul warns Timothy, among other things, about errors and strife in the church and things like greed. He adds that Timothy must flee those things because they can harm him, or the congregation. Actually very logical, because why would you do your best for something that is not good for you?
However, Paul does not stop there, and at the same time gives positive advice about what Timothy must strive for: justice, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. Put energy in these!
When people like to have lots of money, it often causes all kinds of bad things to happen.
Some people have stopped believing the message about the Christ, because they just want to get more money. As a result, they have caused themselves to be very sad because they have many troubles.
But you, are a servant of God. So, you must keep away from all bad things like that.
Instead, always try to do what is right.
▪︎ Serve God in a way that makes Him happy.
▪︎ Choose to trust God and to love other people.
▪︎ Keep strong when you have troubles.
▪︎ Be kind to people.
▪︎ Continue to believe God’s true message.
▪︎ Be like someone who fights well to keep it safe.
For God has chosen you to live with Him for ever.
Are not these advices from Paul to Timothy, also good advices to you?
