Matthew 5:27-28
²⁷You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; ²⁸but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Whatever you let into your life through your eyes or your ears will have influence on you.
When you hear someone say something, and you listen intently to it, you will absorb it and it will make a difference.
Romans 10:17
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
But when you do not listen to God’s word, but to what people, or demons, whisper into your ears, you’ll not get faith from it, but instead of faith, doubt, fear, and worry.
In the same way, what we see also has an impact on our lives.
With the words “you have heard”, Jesus draws our attention to the things we hear; and with the words “who looks”, Jesus draws our attention to the things we see.
In the same way as the eyes are the windows to the mind, are the ears the windows to the heart.
So it is important to know where you open your ears and your eyes to. And to be sure you use them correctly.
Sin is not only a sin when you are personally involved in the act of the sin; Sin is already committed on this moment you ponder wrong thoughts, or “only” lust after the wrong things, because of what you heard or saw.
Dear friends,
make sure that you control your senses of hearing and seeing, and keep them in line with the Word of God.
Make the right choice.
▪︎ Let the words where you listen to, be words of righteousness,
▪︎ and let the things where you look at, be of the kind that bring you closer to God.
