1 John 3:14
We know that we have passed out of death into life,
because we love the brethren.
He who does not love abides in death.
There are signs of grace by which we may know whether the Lord has begun the good work in us. The first and best characteristic is love.
Love from God to God. Everything else follows from that:
▪︎repentance for sin,
▪︎sorrow towards God,
▪︎longing for Christ,
▪︎hunger for His righteousness,
▪︎the desire to live according to God’s will.
That love also extends to all that is the Lord’s, His Name, His day, His Word.
That love also extends to the people of God, the brothers.
▪︎ Those are those who are born of God.
▪︎These are they in whom the Image of Christ becomes visible.
▪︎They are those who love God.
Do you love them?
Not because they are generous or friendly, because they have a nice and helpful character.
But because they love God.
Are you a brother or a sister of those who go to the Lord?
United in that elder brother, the Lord Jesus Christ, who said, “By this the world shall know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
