Read: 1 John 3:14-18
If a sports team does not form a unity, major problems arise.
Imagine that a defender does not want to play up front if necessary; then his team gets into trouble.
In a team you need each other.
The best teams therefore often include people who not only want to be the center of attention themselves, but who also want to work for their fellow players.
This is also the case in a Christian congregation.
There are different people with all kinds of gifts in it.
But together they must form a unity. Otherwise, God cannot optimally do His work there.
When John wrote his first letter to the Christians, there were many poor people in the congregation. It was customary for the wealthy Christians to feed them. But that didn’t always happen.
John warns against that.
According to him, it is impossible to stay close to the love of God and at the same time leave your closest church members out in the cold. For God’s love has the very effect of Christians supporting each other in every way.
You should ask yourself if you love and help the people in your congregation.
Or are you sometimes a lonely striker?
