1 John 3:2
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
Who are “we” to whom John writes these great words?
Is that all people, without exception?
No, not that.
In the beginning of his Gospel, John made this clear: “As many as received Him, to them He gave power to become children of God, to those who believe on His name” (John 1:12).
And Paul writes in the letter to the Galatians: “All of you are children of God through faith in Jesus Christ”.
So the characteristic of childhood is faith.
The belief that God has only one child. And that He once rejected that Child, in order to adopt as His children people who have no right to that benefit.
God has one Son, but, in Him, innumerable children.
Adopted children. Believing is all about promising.
Do you also live by the promise of God given to us in baptism: Adopted us as your children, and this sealed in baptism.”
