A missionary was translating this text.
His two native helpers, with whom he discussed everything, nodded hard when he presented these words to them.
No – they said – it really couldn’t be there.
Surely it had to be: “Behold how great a love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we may kiss his feet.”
The missionary looked at them kindly and smiled and said: “You look like the prodigal son before he met his father! He couldn’t even imagine that he could become a child again. He also intended to say to his father, “Make me one of your mercenaries.”
But it’s really there. The Lord does not take servants, but children.
So great is His love!”
The helpers looked surprised. Is God so merciful?
Does He call children of wrath His children after all?
Do you know the great secret of the parable of the prodigal son?
God’s only Son tells it to us!
