1 John 2:28
Now, little children, abide in Him,
so that when He appears,
we may have confidence
and not shrink away from Him
in shame at his coming.
Every year on King’s Day, and earlier on Queen’s Day, the King visits, and formerly the Queen visited, a number of villages or towns chosen for this purpose.
What a job it is.
Everything must be in perfect order.
But imagine that nothing has been prepared by one of those villages or towns.
That would be a shame.
It would be in the newspaper with big headlines.
But now the coming of our great King, the Lord Jesus.
How are our preparations going?
According to John, the best preparation is to abide in Him.
That means: living in dependence on Him.
Then when He comes, we meet not a stranger, but Him whom we wait for.
This preparation ensures that we need not to be ashamed when He comes.
Then we are ready to receive Him.
A place where the king is expected looks festive.
How much more so for the church of Christ.
Gloom is misplaced, that does our King short.
Let us wait for Him with joy.
