1 John 2:25
This is the promise which He Himself made to us:
eternal life.
He who believes in the Son has eternal life, John writes in his Gospel.
Today’s text is very reminiscent of that well-known word. You could call it the great Gospel promise of God to His own.
No less than eternal life is promised to John and the believers of all times and places.
To think that it is a promise from the mouth of the True One, Who is infinite in power and grace.
By this word John wants to call on his readers all the more emphatically to strive to be found in Christ and to abide in Him.
Has that promise taken hold of our hearts?
Have we got hold of it?
Then we came to understand that we deserve death.
And then, still there is a promise of life!
