1 John 2:22
Who is the liar
but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ?
This is the antichrist,
the one who denies the Father and the Son.
We live in the end times.
That is the period between Pentecost and the Second Coming of the Christ. John names that time in his letter: “the last hour.”
A striking feature of that last hour is that many are against the Christ (anti-Christ). In our time we also meet a lot of people who want nothing to do with the faith in the Lord Jesus.
The church abandonment is great.
As bad as that is, it does create clarity.
John says, “They went out of us, but they were not of us.” Johannes is sober about the abandonment of the church. It brings to light that they don’t belong, and have never belonged. You better know that.
John tells those who stay, that they are anointed with the Holy Spirit. That keeps them close to the truth that Jesus is the Christ.
Whoever denies that, turns out to be a liar.
For many in the world the Name of Jesus has no meaning anymore. But His position is also challenged in church and theology.
Is the confession, “Jesus is the Christ?” still your confession?
