1 John 2:18
Children, it’s the last hour;
and just as you heard that antichrist is coming,
even now many antichrists have appeared;
from this we know that it is the last hour.
John was there when his Master spoke of His return.
Indelibly in the disciple’s heart is the parable in which the Lord calls to expect Him in faith: the parable of the five wise and five foolish virgins.
Only the first had their lamps burning when the bridegroom arrived at the late hour.
John also stood by when, on the day of Pentecost, Peter presented to the crowd that the last days have now begun.
Now that he has grown old, he writes it fatherly to the congregation and then and now: “It is the last hour.” He is coming!
Where does John know that from?
Of course from the Word of the Master.
But also from what is happening around him.
Antichrists magnify themselves. These are the false prophets and the many deceivers, about whom the Lord also has spoken.
The heresy, which expects salvation outside the Word made flesh.
Now it is the very last hour.
