1 John 2:3
By this we know that we have come to know Him,
if we keep His commandments.
…if we keep His commandments.
Surely there is no one who can do that, keep God’s commandments.
That is true! But our daily text wants to teach us that living faith is distinguished from the dead knowledge of God, by keeping the commandments of God.
That won’t be perfect here.
Far from it!
Doesn’t that make you sad that it’s so imperfect?
Still…
The real knowledge of God grips the whole man.
▪︎In principle, it gives the lust and the love to obey God.
▪︎The desire to be renewed in Christ’s image.
▪︎The loving bondage to the will of God.
That is saying something,
because it means nothing less than the crucifixion of our old will, which is horribly tough.
Do you delight to fear the Lord?
Then it shall be your prayer also today: Lord, what do you want me to do?
