1 John 2:3
By this we know that we have come to know Him,
if we keep His commands.
Devotional
With these words the apostle again jumps into the heresy, which probably existed in the vicinity of Ephesus. Those teachers wanted to bring people to a knowledge of something divine in them. If they had found that, they would be free and detached from the world.
That gave them the security.
Many in our time do seek security in their own hearts or in their own works. We sometimes think that we can take a stepping stone to heavenly bliss with this. Our flesh always looks for clues in man himself.
John says: Do you want to know if you know God?
This can best be seen in how a person lives by the commandments of God.
If we know Him, we keep His commandments.
Shall we consider today the practice of godliness?
The tree is known by its fruits.
