Read: 1 John 2:1-11
Our daily walk is about not sinning.
To sin is to miss the mark.
And that cannot exist in our Christian life.
Nevertheless, John has an eye for the power of sin.
If we are not properly vigilant, we will fall into sin again.
Lurking, sin waits until it thinks it can strike (cf. Matthew 26:41; Genesis 4:7).
Sin brings darkness and hurts the heart.
Yet we should not despair, for Jesus is our Advocate with the Father.
God forgives the one who sincerely repents. Everyone may plead the blood of Jesus, for that is sufficient for the whole world (1 John 2:1,2).
But let’s face it,
▪︎to know Jesus in forgiveness is one,
▪︎but to know Him by keeping His commandments is an other thing.
He who does not heed His words is a liar.
He who loves Him gives heed to His will (John 14:21).
That is the test of whether we are serious or not (1 John 2:3-5).
To abide in Jesus is to walk as He walked (1 Peter 2:21).
In the same mind, so full of love, humility, loving the other, hating sin, yea, even love unto death (1 John 3:16).
That is a lot, to be able to be imitators in business and conduct (1 John 2:6)!
Not only in the New Testament, but also in the Old Testament does the commandment of love for one’s neighbor occur (John 13:34,35; Leviticus 19:18).
Why then does John call this commandment new in 1 John 2:8?
Because in His life Jesus gave the old commandment such an enormous brilliance that it took on a new dimension.
Now the Holy Spirit also dwells in us.
Result: what is real, and sincere in Jesus, is it also in us through His Spirit.
Walking in the light and hating your brother don’t go together.
John is not vague about this: he who walks in darkness is blinded by it and does not realize what he can come to.
▪︎Then you lack the correct knowledge of yourself and of God.
▪︎Then you think completely humanly and that has nothing to do with the new way of thinking and living in Christ (1 John 2:9-11).
Let’s walk with Jesus in the light!
