2 Chronicles 19:4-9
⁴So Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem and went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and brought them back to the Lord, the God of their fathers.
⁵He appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city.
⁶He said to the judges, “Consider what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord who is with you when you render judgment.
⁷Now then let the fear of the Lord be upon you; be very careful what you do, for the Lord our God will have no part in unrighteousness or partiality or the taking of a bribe.”
⁸In Jerusalem also Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites and priests, and some of the heads of the fathers’ households of Israel, for the judgment of the Lord and to judge disputes among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
⁹Then he charged them saying, “Thus you shall do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and wholeheartedly.
Devotional
Jehoshaphath, the new king, kept God’s commandments.
God’s commandments are also still made known to us.
We hear them every Sunday in church.
God gives us Sunday as a day of rest, to let us hear His love and promise.
King Jehoshaphath prospered very well.
But Jehoshaphath thought it was especially important that there be honesty in his country.
The judges are summoned to be just, and the king points out a danger: “Do not look at the person, do not look at whether you like someone or not, but be just, upright. Do not accept gifts, do not be bribed. “
We sometimes hear about corruption, dishonesty, but above all, the elderly know what it meant to live in a period of injustice and dishonesty. For example, they think of the horrors of war. It is good if we also consider how many have sacrificed their lives in the fight against the cruel rulers of our country.
Above all, you may pray, “Lord, let me live in the fear of the Lord with all my heart.”
Live like Jehoshaphat.
