1 John 1:8
If we say we have no sin,
we are deceiving ourselves
and the truth is not in us.
John knows of people who claim they have no sin.
▪︎Or they say they are indeed beyond sin,
▪︎or they think it is only their old man who sins.
▪︎That no longer counts they think.
Anyway, John denounces it as tempting yourself.
Deceptive, and life-threatening.
Why?
Well, this reasoning keeps you from the way of salvation.
The way of salvation consists in a constant hiding of the guilty one, behind the blood of Christ.
The claim that we have no sin, keeps you away from the Christ and His blood. And therefore it is a deadly deception.
‘We are lost and without hope unless our God comes to the rescue with the medicine of forgiveness’.
Calvin
And isn’t that always necessary again?
