1 John 1:4
These things we write,
so that our joy may be made complete.
Much of the joy that we encounter in this world is not real joy, but only a disguise of essentially deep sadness and disappointment. Many put on a mask outwardly.
John is writing here about being filled with joy.
That joy has everything to do with the finished work of the Lord Jesus. After all, He made an eternal reconciliation, made amends between God and man.
This restores the most essential relationship.
That gives real joy, not as a mask, but fed from the cross of the Lord Jesus.
John writes this letter, so that that joy will now be fulfilled – reach an unknown height of joy.
We may also let this word lead us to the cross of the Lord Jesus, to receive the forgiveness of our sins there.
That brings real joy.
