1 John 1.1
What was from the beginning,
what we have heard,
what we have seen with our eyes,
what we have looked at
and touched with our hands,
concerning the Word of Life
Devotional
“We have not followed fables.” writes the apostle Peter.
Oh no, the testimony of the apostles is based on facts.
John, the apostle of love, emphasizes it strongly in this verse.
He himself heard it, that wonderful Word of the Christ.
They had penetrated his heart. He felt its power. He clung to it when many departed.
He has seen Him as the Word made flesh, who takes away the sin of the world, as the Son of God, who was to come into the world.
Have you seen Him too?
Then no doubt you will say with the bride, “All that is in Him, is quite desirable, such One is my Beloved.”
He has beheld Him. He could not take his eyes off the Christ.
He beheld with eyes of faith, and marveled unspeakably: Great is the mystery of godliness; God is manifested in the flesh.
He saw Him hanging on the cursed wood, and the Spirit of Pentecost made him experience it: the punishment that brought me peace was upon Him.
