1 John 1:1
What was from the beginning,
what we have heard,
what we have seen with our eyes,
what we have looked at and touched with our hands,
concerning the Word of Life …
Without greeting, without salutation, Johannes falls straight into the house at the beginning of this letter.
As in his Gospel, he also begins here at a dizzying height, namely with the eternity of the Son of God.
He was there before the creation of the world. From eternity He was with the Father, in the glory of the Father. “Before Abraham was, I am.” That could be said by the Son.
How inadequate is our thinking and understanding here.
More than that, how short of our words here to utter the glory of the Son of God!
His glory and beauty is dazzling, peerless.
If we are going to discover and know Him in this way, then reading and examining the Word – even today – will not be in vain.
