Genesis 24:1-4
¹Now Abraham was old, advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in every way.
²Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he owned, “Please place your hand under my thigh, ³and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live, ⁴but you will go to my country and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
Genesis 24:63-67
⁶³Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening; and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, camels were coming.
⁶⁴Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac she dismounted from the camel.
⁶⁵She said to the servant, “Who is that man walking in the field to meet us?” And the servant said, “He is my master.” Then she took her veil and covered herself.
⁶⁶The servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.
⁶⁷Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and he took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her; thus Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
Genesis 25:21
Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.
Devotional
Who do you get?
Do your mother and father ever say what kind of boy or girl you should date?
A lot of young people think this is stupid. What are they doing! This is my own business. Is it really strange when parents get involved? Do we indeed find Biblical things strange? Abraham is concerned that Isaac will get a good wife.
Your parents should also have this concern.
Worried about having a boy or a girl who believes in the Lord God. Abraham did not want Isaac to have a girl out of the world.
Where were you looking for your girl or boy last time? Was that in a place where the Lord Jesus also likes to come?
How hard is it if your boyfriend or girlfriend doesn’t know Jesus. You can try to talk about it with each other, but what should you do if they won’t listen? If they curse Jesus’ name, will you still be friends?
Pray much that God will give you a friend who will go to church with you, who will serve the Lord with you.
Isaac waits and prays. He thus gets a wife from God’s hand, Rebekah. Together they prayed a lot for children, a prayer that was answered.
