Matthew 16:16
Simon Peter answered,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
The Lord Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am?”
The people in general were impressed by His miracles. But they did not regard Him as the God-promised Saviour.
Some saw in Him John the Baptist, who would have been revived. Others saw Him as Elijah, as Jeremiah, or as one of the other prophets.
Then the Lord Jesus asks His disciples, “But who do you say that I am?”
What a precious confession may Simon Peter make. He may say it, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
A short, substantive confession. He is God’s promised Saviour. He is the Messiah. He is the highest Prophet and Teacher. He is the only High Priest. He is the Eternal King. He is the Son of the living God. He is not only a wondrous prophet, but the Son of the living God.
