Matthew 14:28
Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
When you are browsing a photo album, you will sometimes see a few photos taken shortly after each other. And yet you look very different.
In the piece we read, there are three photos of Peter.
The first photo turned out really nice.
Peter, seeing his Master and Savior there walking on the water, is filled with such enthusiasm that he says, If it be You, bid me to come to You.
What to do with those words? Should you disapprove of them because it are the words of a daredevil? No, it’s more! His words speak love! He longed for Jesus during those anxious hours on the water. And now that Jesus is there, now his heart rejoices. His words also speak faith!
There is great confidence in it. Master, if you are able to walk on the water, then you can let me come to you too.
Love and faith. And when Jesus says: Come!, then he responds to the invitation of Jesus! How mighty it is to trust in this way! A complete surrender. Can you trust the word of Jesus? You are never deceived by His word, are you? A beautiful picture: Peter, the hero of faith!
Does the picture of your life look like this picture of Peter?
