Matthew 14:27
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying,
“Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
What an unspeakable surprise this must have been for the distressed disciples! They struggled with the tumultuous sea, having the winds, and the high waves against them. They thought they were given up to the elements, because He, their Leader and Lord, was not with them. Because He couldn’t even know they were in need. After all, He was left alone on the mountain to pray.
Yes, a great surprise, when Jesus came to them there. Carried by that same sea that was against them! So He knew anyway. So He had seen them!
Remember this, fellow traveler to eternity, the same problems and storms that may overwhelm your soul, carry Him to you.
The same dark clouds that obscure your eyes of faith, are under His feet, and carry the divine helper to you. Over, no through the problems that come like billows over you, he cries to you, also to you: Be of good cheer, fear not! It is I, I am with you.
My hand penetrates the clouds. My love heals your wounds. My heart heals your heart. It’s me. I do know of your problems, of your struggle. I’ve seen you. I was near when you thought that I was far off. Do not fear today. However high it may be, the waters will not overflow you. Perhaps you need it that I at last come at the fourth watch of the night, but it will surely be in My time!
