Matthew 13:46 NASB2020
and upon finding one pearl of great value,
he went and sold everything that he had
and bought it.
Devotional
The application of the parable is the same as that of the foregoing.
In order to become the owner of the pearl of great price, the merchant must sell all that he has.
Not only does he have to sell his stock of pearls, he has to sell everything he has. But the pearl is worth it.
Do we also see that the ‘Christ pearl’ has all value?
Of ourselves we see more lust in the false pearls of the world.
How necessary it is for the Holy Spirit to open our eyes and discover our guilt and loss. What a shortage, an eternal shortage. No matter how many pearls we have scraped together, it cannot save our precious souls from death.
There is no telling how desirable the Christ pearl becomes to such.
When we hear of Him in the Gospel, when He is displayed in the marketplace of free grace, the heart goes out to Him.
And how does He become part of us?
By selling everything we have.
Then we must lose not only our false pearls, but also our pious ones!
For do you know how the sale is closed?
I have lost all, but have chosen Christ, Whose own I am.
