Matthew 13:45
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls,
Devotional
Another parable follows. This time it’s about a merchant. A dealer in pearls. The image of this parable is again close to the national life of Israel. After all, Jews are a trading people par excellence.
In our minds we see an eloquent and much traveled merchant. He spares no expense or effort to obtain his merchandise. He is looking for pearls.
Beautiful pearls! He knows how to value the pearls.
We are also pearl seekers.
People are continually looking for something.
What a journey, what a cost a person makes to search for pearls.
We seek the pearls of happiness, wealth, honor, a good job, a beautiful home, and so on.
Fallen man is always looking for the pearl of paradise lost. But most are looking in the wrong places!
They look for it here on earth. They look for it in themselves.
They chase after the things of the world. They let themselves be enchanted.
Let the course of your seeking be determined by the prophetic Word of God.
Look for the pearl of the Kingdom of God. Seek the “Christ-pearl” while He still can be found.
