Matthew 13:44 NASB2020
The kingdom of heaven is like
a treasure hidden in the field,
which a man found and hid again;
and from joy over it he goes
and sells everything that he has,
and buys that field.
Suddenly the finder of the treasure is rich!
Although, he now knows that there is a treasure.
And he also knows where the treasure is.
He cannot yet say: this treasure is mine. For the field is not his property.
See what he does. He puts the treasure back in the ground. Goes and sells all that he has, so as to bring together the capital that is needed to buy the field.
So great was his joy, and so much did he see in the treasure, that he would give anything to get hold of the treasure.
His house, his tools, his change of clothes… he sells everything he has. He will give up everything to get that treasure.
Here we have the great lesson of this parable.
When we find the glory of Christ in the Gospel, we do not cry at that first finding that we are now justified, sanctified, and glorified.
No, we hide those things between the Lord and our hearts.
And the desire flows through your soul to partake of Christ and His righteousness. For it is different to know that there is a treasure and where the treasure is, than to know that it is my treasure too!
Christ and His mercies becomes such a treasure and everything in you stretches out to have Him as your King.
