Matthew 11:6 KJV
And blessed is he,
whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Devotional
Many were offended at the Person, the preaching, and the action of the Saviour.
His preaching did not please the religious man in those days, and it doesn’t please them now. That is why so many try to find salvation in other ways, and are they following gods they made themselves, or are they trying to live in what they see as a good way.
▪︎ But there is no entry into heaven by a way of self-righteousness!
▪︎ There is entry into salvation ONLY through the righteousness of the Son of God.
Many Jews (and others) have been annoyed by the cross of Christ.
The Christ is to many a stumbling stone and a rock of offense.
▪︎ Because of their inner wickedness they stumbled upon Christ.
▪︎ By the righteous judgment of God these stiffnecked people have been surrendered in their stiffneckedness.
They will not escape the punishment of God.
Blessed, on the other hand, are those who are not offended by Him.
We are all naturally offended by the doctrine of free grace.
▪︎ After all, man does not want to be discovered, exposed, humiliated and broken down.
▪︎ He wants to be built up, clothed, exalted and praised.
The doctrine of free grace runs counter to the views of fallen man.
It is therefore only grace to be able to embrace that teaching:
God is most glorified and the sinner most humbled.
