Matthew 11:3 KJV
And said unto him,
Art thou he that should come,
or do we look for another?
Devotional
Art thou the one that should come, or do we look for another?
The margin texts and Calvin point out that John the Baptist had no doubts on this point. For didn’t John the Baptist plainly say in the past, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world”?
According to them it were the disciples of John the Baptist who still had some doubts.
I keep it that the point of these verses is not that we should find out who was, or were, doubting, but follow the example that is given here, which is go to Jesus with your doubts and your questions. He’ll answer you!
Let us not exalt ourselves above the disciples of John the Baptist.
Doubt can thus arise in the hearts of God’s children.
- The question may arise: Is the Bible true?
- Is it really God’s work with me?
- Isn’t it just education and feeling?
- Will the Lord hear me?
Those questions can hurt such a heart.
It can therefore look forward to getting rid of those questions.
Prayer Suggestion
- Pray that through teaching the Lord will remove those doubts.
