Matthew 10:14 KJV
And whosoever shall not receive you,
nor hear your words,
when ye depart out of that house or city,
shake off the dust of your feet.
Devotional
This text recalls a custom of the Jews.
When they had come from a journey through pagan territory, they carefully removed all dust from their footwear and clothing before re-entering the bottom of the Jewish land. After all, the heathen land was considered unclean.
Now when a house or a city rejects the Word of free grace, the disciples should shake the dust from their feet. This equates that house or city with the heathen land.
It expresses that one does not want to have contact with the inhabitants.
They are considered unclean.
It will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than such.
Also on this day the word of free grace is preached again.
What is your attitude toward the preaching of those sent forth to labor in the vineyard?
- Is it to you a savor of death unto death,
- or is it to you a savor of life unto life?
