Matthew 9:2 NASB
And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed.
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic,
Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.
Devotional
In an emergency one gets to know one’s friends.
This paralyzed man had real friends. They had only one desire. To bring their wretched friend to the feet of the Lord Jesus. Because they were convinced of this: He can and will save.
Where that belief is real, nothing, and no one can hold it back.
The crowd stood in the way.
That way they couldn’t possibly get to Jesus.
If not through the door, then through the roof.
Jesus sees the faith of these people. He sees to the depths of our hearts. He sees the work of His precious Spirit.
Jesus also sees the heart of this paralyzed man. He gauges his greatest need and deepest sorrow.
That’s not that he’s paralyzed. That’s bad.
But unspeakably worse is that he is a sinner. He sees a heart that yearns for the forgiveness of sins.
Is that also your greatest need and sorrow?
Then you cannot help but hear the same glorious message: Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven.”
For Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today.
