Psalms 13:6 NASB
I will sing to the Lord,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
Devotional
When we read this Psalm in its entirety, of which these words form the final chord, we feel, better than many arguments can convince us, how great the power is, of the true prayer to God.
The mountain stream, overflowing from its bank, roars at dizzying speed, dragging everything it encounters on the road. He overwhelms all objections that might hinder his progress, and clears the banks along which he advances.
Thus also the power of prayer overcomes and overwhelms all objections and all fears, all complaints and all sorrows.
David, too, was weighed down, sorrowful, and distressed on all sides.
We feel, reading on,
▪︎ how prayer wins over the heaviness of his soul;
▪︎ how faith pierces the clouds and beholds the light radiating from the throne of God;
▪︎ how the heart that turns to God tastes gladness and heavenly joy, regardless of the earthly circumstances, which can indeed be hard enough.
Then, if we too learn to pray as David did, our hearts, are gradually made receptive to the gifts of gratitude, and acknowledge: The Lord has dealt bountifully with is.
▪︎ He does not hide His face.
▪︎ He never forgets us.
▪︎ In Christ, even in the most difficult hours, we have the sure pledge of his eternal mercy.
