1 Kings 3:9 NASB
So give Your servant an understanding heart
to judge Your people
to discern between good and evil.
For who is able to judge
this great people of Yours?”
Devotional
Give Your servant a wise heart …
What do you want for your birthday?
What do you want when you pass your exam?
Well, we, young and old, usually know how to answer such questions.
Solomon, who is about 20 years old, is also asked such a question when he makes sacrifices in Gibeon. “Ask what I will give you,” God says to him in a dream. And what a beautiful answer he gives: Solomon, who must recognize his own smallness and incompetence, for the great task of king, asks for a sensible heart.
He literally asks for a listening heart.
He will need that as king and judge.
A heart that senses what is right and wrong.
Kings and judges still need such a heart.
Actually, every person needs such a heart.
A sensible, a listening heart, that is also a new heart.
Whoever asks God for this will not be disappointed.
Just ask if you want a heart like that.
