Matthew 14:04
For John said unto him,
It is not lawful for thee to have her.
Devotional
John the Baptist had rebuked King Herod for the sin he committed.
He also pointed out to him the violation of the seventh commandment.
It appears from the original language that John did this not just once, but over and over again. Herod did not break with sin, but had John locked up in prison.
The end of John was beheading.
By grace he was faithful unto death and receive the crown of life.
He had served the council of God and was allowed to enter into heavenly glory.
What a change: to enter out of the dungeon into glory.
Preachers today also have to faithfully warn against sin and iniquity. John left an example worthy of imitation.
The sin of others must not be passively tolerated.
Because of self-interest, it can be tempting to remain silent with certain individuals. But the Lord requires that warning be given in faithfulness, indiscriminately, whatever the consequences may be.
