Matthew 6:9-10 NASB
⁹Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. ¹⁰Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
Devotional
Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
How often have we heard this first petition of the “Our Father” prayed, or perhaps prayed ourselves, without the deep sense of what we asked for, having penetrated our consciousness.
We ask, in fact, this: That the Name of God, above all things, be holy to us, and to all, and may receive glory, also through us.
We pray this:
▪︎ That everything that opposes the will of God be cast down.
▪︎ That the day may come when His will and law may be all ours.
There is still so much around us, in that great society of nominal Christians, but just as much in our own hearts, yes of us who call ourselves sincere followers of the Lord, that does not want to know the will of God.
There is still so much in our own lives, and in that of our circle of friends, that is so different from what it should be.
Our motivations are often so unholy.
Our intentions so selfish.
We sometimes don’t count at all with His will and His honor.
He may be our King in name, inasmuch as we call ourselves after Him and we gladly bear that name … But our King in the true sense, as the One whose will to do is our food, and whose honor is our joy … He is, alas, far too little.
