Matthew 5:9 NASB
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called sons of God.
Devotional
A child knows that the opposite of war is peace.
Violence, conflict and quarrels still continue.
The root of all that misery is within ourselves.
There is a deep-seated enmity towards God and neighbors.
There will be no solid peace agreement from within.
God Himself has laid the peace foundation in Jesus in this warlike world. On that foundation, the believing peacemakers are spoken of in this verse.
These peacemakers are not peaceable only to themselves, but also promote peace in others (Hebrews 12:14).
Who are they?
They are disciples of Jesus who look to the Prince of Peace and say:
“He is our peace, for the chastisement that brings peace to us was upon Him.”
Who among us say that?
▪︎ Peaceful are not those who give up much, for the sake of peace.
▪︎ Peaceful is everyone who, because of the peace-mindedness, promotes peace everywhere.
The god-fearing medievalist Francis of Assisi once said that followers of Jesus become instruments of God’s peace. Because of God’s Son Jesus, they are God’s children who sow in peace.
They shall be called sons of God, that is, to be indeed, and to be known for it.
