Matthew 5:3 NASB
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Devotional
Vacation or no vacation, the teaching of the Lord Jesus continues.
Outside or inside, each of us can be a student.
To listen breathlessly to the Sermon on the Mount, which begins with the Beatitudes.
“Blessed,” says Jesus. I praise happy.
Who are those blessed ones?
The poor in spirit.
Rich and poor is still a bitter contradiction.
▪︎ He who is materially rich, and has lost his heart to it, is indeed poor, and certainly not blessed.
▪︎ The materially poor, who have “lost” their heart to Jesus, precede them.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit” means a lot more.
Blessed are those who are poor in their hearts.
To the very core of your own existence.
Blessed are the totally poor.
And that because the poor and afflicted may hear the Gospel of the Kingdom from the mouth of the Messiah.
He turns beggars into owners.
Now in beginning and once complete.
