Poor and rich
Matthew 5:3 NASB
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Devotional
How poor a person is by nature.
▪︎ He lacks everything necessary to live comforted and die blissfully.
▪︎ He lacks everything it takes to pay his sky-high debt before God. On the contrary, he increases his debt every day.
Do you understand how poor you are before God?
Will you soon have to miss God forever?
Whoever realizes this by grace, can no longer help himself with some superficial imagination and talked-on faith. You feel your poverty in the depths of your soul.
▪︎ No one can help and comfort you, except One.
▪︎ No one can make you rich, but One.
That blessed King, of whom the apostle says, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sakes he became poor, when he was rich, that through his poverty you might become rich.”
Therefore the poor in spirit are blessed.
Because their hearts reach out to this King.
And they will have Him.
And whoever has the King, also has His Kingdom.
How rich are those poor people?
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
