When you read Psalm 22 you immediately think of Golgotha.
It is a psalm of suffering.
Jesus uses words from this Psalm for His fourth word on the cross.
The ‘why’ sounds from the tightness. It is a search for God.
Who says you can’t say “why” to God?
Jesus was totally forsaken by God.
Why? That we should never be forsaken again!
At the foot of the cross the clothes are divided.
Why? Because the Scriptures had to be fulfilled.
The contrast in this Psalm is great.
In the beginning everything is still dark, in the end everything is light.
Windows and doors open in all directions. Also upwards!
People come from all nations to worship God.
The ends of the earth repent.
God is King. He rules all over the world and will receive all the glory.
This Psalm also becomes a missionary psalm.
This applies not only to one generation, but also to the descendants. ‘The seed shall serve Him’ is a promise to all young people.
Again the Scriptures are fulfilled: “When His soul shall present Himself as a guilt offering, then shall He see seed” (Isaiah 53:10).
