Matthew 4:8 NASB
⁸Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain
and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world
and their glory;
Devotional
Satan is not ready yet.
Twice he had to lose it against the Son of God.
Now he has gone before Him to a high mountain.
That is not to say that the devil is mightier than the Christ.
Well, that this happens under the rule of heaven.
Christ must follow this prince of hell.
From that high mountain Satan shows Him all the kingdoms of the world.
We don’t know how this happened.
It is proof that the devil is capable of much under God’s permission.
It is no small matter to show the glory of the earthly kingdoms.
But what does he not show Him?
▪︎ How that world has become under the rule of the tempter from the beginning!
▪︎ He does not show the great misery caused by sin.
He prefers not to show it to Him, because behind that misery is his own work. In the end, Satan cannot but corrupt.
We, too, are bewitched by the glory and power of all that is in the world, but we fail to see that iniquity is tossing and working in it.
How fortunate that by God’s grace we have learned to see in our lives that all this pseudo-glory perishes.
