Matthew 4:1 NASB
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
Devotional
What a road for the Lord Jesus, from the Jordan to the desert!
The Holy Spirit, who descended on Him in the form of a dove, now leads Him into solitude.
There in that solitude, when He is weakened by hunger and thirst, satan comes to Him to tempt Him. There he will fire his venomous arrows at Him.
To try to take Him off the road, to – if possible – hinder His work as Mediator.
What a comfort to you, who, perhaps, have also stood in the height of faith, and who must now descend into the depths of temptation. He has gone before!
We have a High Priest who was tempted in all things as we are.
He has fought the devilish enemy with the word.
And He taught us to pray: lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
