Matthew 3:13 NASB
Then Jesus arrived from Galilee
at the Jordan coming to John,
to be baptized by him.
Devotional
The baptism of Christ belongs to the fulfillment of all righteousness.
It lives in the heart of the Christ, in this too He wants to do the will of the Father.
For Himself Christ had no need of baptism, any more than circumcision. He was without any sin.
Jesus didn’t need baptism, but baptism needed Jesus.
After all, without His work there is no washing and cleansing from sin.
Christ was submerged in baptismal water.
That preached His willingness to go down in the flood of God’s wrath.
As a substitute He will bear the sins of His own, and gain them life.
For Christ also rose again from the water of baptism.
That preaches to us that the Prince of Life will rise again from the dead.
His people will live of, and through Him.
Every human being has deserved to be submerged in the flood of God’s wrath. Each is conceived and born in sin.
For those who are allowed to empathize with this, the baptism of Christ takes on a rich meaning. Nothing, but the blood of the Christ cleanses us from all sin.
