Nobody likes to be alone.
Humans are created in such a way that they cannot be alone.
You prefer to find a group you belong to.
However, you can also overdo it.
Babylon was the first great city.
It is striking that it is precisely in such a large groups of people that sin quickly shows its ugly head. It almost seems like a law.
The large cities in the Netherlands have high crime rates.
Amsterdam is also known as the gutter of Europe.
Then take a look at a city like Nairobi (Kenya) or Lima (Peru).
No, that’s not fun anymore.
Unity is also hard to find.
On the contrary, people in their millions often feel terribly lonely at the same time.
People think they can ‘solve’ loneliness by numbing that feeling with drink or drugs or driving it away with noise or pleasure, but the fact is that alcohol and drugs only give them extra problems.
Such ‘solutions’ are no solutions.
You continue to long for love and authenticity.
That’s like thirst.
Even if you drink as much as you can, it will come back.
Jesus is the only One Who can solve that longing for love and authenticity.
That is why the city is really a mission field.
