Ruth 4:15 NASB
May he also be to you a restorer of life
and a sustainer of your old age;
for your daughter-in-law, who loves you
and is better to you than seven sons,
has given birth to him.
Devotional
He will refresh your soul.
Restoring and refreshing.
For one it is a midweek away,
for the other a trip abroad
and for the next to be able to sleep a little longer.
In our busy and confused world, too much is often asked of the body and mind. A person is not a machine. Besides, a machine also needs rest and maintenance.
Apparently the arrival of a child can also ‘refresh’ a person.
These words were spoken in Bethlehem, in the fields of Ephrathah, where later David is a shepherd.
And this Shepherd David is a foreshadow for us on the Good Shepherd, who was born in the stable of Bethlehem, and came to refresh us.
In the heart of the desert with His heavenly gifts of bread and of wine.
This is about more than just a well-groomed old age for Naomi and Ruth.
Is it that what it is for us on our way to Sunday?
What refreshment do you look forward to?
