Mark 12:27 AV
He is not the God of the dead,
but the God of the living:
ye therefore do greatly err.
God is not a God of the dead, but a God of the living.
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were long gone.
They had died two thousand years earlier.
And then what does this Rabbi say about the resurrection of the dead. Dead is dead. That was the teachings of the Sadducees and of Modernism, and … of most man by nature, religious or not.
We put death far from us.
And we speak of the dead as if they no longer exist.
But the Lord says here that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
For it is recorded in the story of Moses by the burning bush, that the Lord says, I AM the God of Abraham. Not: I WAS the God of Abraham. No, the Lord God is still the God of the living.
They are resting now and, will soon be at the resurrection of the dead, in that great morning to come.
Then there will be all of them, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Enoch, Noah, Manasseh and Simon Peter, Paul and Nathanael.
They will then live on the new earth with God. The living God is responsible for this. Although they may have slept in the grave for more than four thousand years.
