Mark 10:16 AV
And he took them up in his arms¹,
put his hands upon them,
and blessed them.
Sometimes you hear people say: “I am not taking my child to church yet, because it can hardly understand anything of what is said.”
And often this is also used as an excuse not to go yourself, because someone has to stay at home to look after the little one.
But are we not mistaken?
Not seldom children understand more regarding spiritual things greater than we think. And even if they did not understand it, they still would have received the blessing at the end of the service.
And if while talking about the sermon at home, it turns out that they did not understand it, you can explain it further to them. Perhaps with the help of a children’s bible.
However, such a mistake is understandable.
Because the disciples were also mistaken about this.
They thought that the children, who were brought to Jesus were only a burden to their Master, and so they wanted to send them away.
But our children feel and understand much more about sin and evil, and about repentance and forgiveness, than we sometimes think. And it has happened several times that a word received in the early youth in the church, was used by God as a means in later life, to lead them on the way of life.
They don’t need to understand so much either, for faith is not a matter of understanding. The point is that the Lord Jesus wants to receive them and lay His hands on them and give them His blessing.
Shall we prevent that?
