Mark 8:34 AV
And when he had called
the people unto him
with his disciples also,
he said unto them,
Whosoever will come after me,
let him deny himself,
and take up his cross, and follow me.
We are not yet ready, we didn’t arrive yet with the confession of “You are the Christ”.
When we truly confessed that from the depths of our hearts, than it is all just beginning. Because then the consequences will come.
Satan doesn’t want to lose you out of His claws, so He will start to attack you.
I once read on a wall tile: “If you want to follow the Savior, let Him go first. Even when it goes in the direction of suffering”. Peter had such a hard time with that, and when we are honest, we must admit that we, all too often, are just like Peter in that respect. We prefer to point out other ways.
But to follow Jesus, is to be a cross-bearer.
And it is more than worth it; It will not bring you loss, but profit!
After all, what would it be to you if you would win the whole world, but in the same time you would lose our soul? So following Jesus is of the highest importance!
Then, let’s not lower it to something that is only incidental or additional to life.
May the Lord keep us from having it both ways …
Let us all just follow; not run ahead of Him, or next to Him, but follow Him.
