Mark 6:50 (AV)
For they all saw him,
and were troubled.
And immediately he talked with them,
and saith unto them,
Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
Sometimes storms can arise unexpectedly in our lives. The sailing went so smoothly, and the sea of life seemed so calm. But then suddenly it is stormy, then trouble and sorrow are rushing all over us, then all kinds of distress and death come over us and we don’t see it anymore, it is as if we will perish in that storm.
So it was with the disciples one night when they went out.
The Lord Jesus had stayed behind to pray on the mountain. And there the storm overtakes them. They do anything to preserve the ship.
But where is the Lord Jesus now?
Will He let them perish?
But then in the fourth watch at the end of the night, He walks on the sea and pretends to pass them by.
They think of some apparition and they cry out in fear. But He says, Don’t be afraid. It is I and therefore you do not have to fear.
This is how it often happens in our lives. When we think: now it is no longer possible, now it is lost, then suddenly He is standing there before us: Do not be afraid. It’s me.
