Mark 1:30 (KJV)
But Simon’s¹ wife’s² mother³ lay sick of a fever⁴,
and anon⁵ they⁶ tell Him⁷ of her³.
¹) This is Simon, also named Peter, one of Jesus’s first disciples
²) Simon’s wife, from this we know that Peter was married
³) Simon’s mother in law
⁴) Being sick with a fever
⁵) Straightway, immediately, forthwith
⁶) Possibly Simon and his wife
⁷) Jesus
From other translations:
Now Simon 's mother-in-law had for some time been lying sick with a fever, and at once they told Him about her. [AMP] Now Simon's mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. [ESV] Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed, burning up with fever. They told Jesus. [MSB] Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. [NIV] Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. They told Jesus about her right away. [NLT] But Simon's wife's mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. [NKJV]
Now let us see what this verse is telling us.
Sick of a fever
Luke, “the beloved physician” ( Colossians 4:14 ), describes it professionally; calling it a “great fever,” and thus distinguishing it from the lighter kind which the Greek physicians called “small fevers.”
They tell Him of her
Naturally hoping that His compassion and power towards one of His own disciples would not be less than towards the demonized stranger in the synagogue.

The service in the synagogue has ended, and Jesus, along with a few disciples, is now accompanying Peter to his house. But when they arrive at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law turns out to be in bed with a fever.
Jesus has to deal with it. Peter and his wife (or were it the others?) do not hide the matter from Him. We read that they tell Him about it. And in another Gospel we read that they prayed for her too.
So they urged Him to heal her.
This lets us know that the Lord Jesus is available.
At whatever hour we come to Him. He is available.
Jesus has been busy. As a human being, He no doubt needed some rest after the efforts in the synagogue. Yet He is accessible to everyone who is in need.
Isn’t that a message of comfort?
We also learn here that we may go to Him with the needs of others.
Are there any unsaved souls in your area? People in need? You may bring them to the Lord. Instantly!
