Hosea 10: 1 NASB
Israel is a luxuriant vine;
He produces fruit for himself.
The more his fruit,
The more altars he made;
The richer his land,
The better he made the sacred pillars.
In other words:
Israel is like a vine that has plenty of fruit. Israel became more and more rich, and so the people built more altars. Their land became better and better. So they build special pillars that they could worship.
Israel is a vine. That image is familiar to us.
Many times the people are compared to a vine or a vineyard.
You can expect a vineyard or a vine to bear fruit.
Well, Israel surely did that. The vine has already been plucked, but it had rich fruit.
This means that the Lord has richly blessed His people.
Apparently the people are grateful for it. Because it has built many altars.
However, not for the Lord, but for the idols.
With the blessings of the Lord, the people have served their foreign gods.
Perhaps you prospered too.
Maybe you too were richly blessed by the Lord.
Did it bring you to Him?
Or do you, because of all His benefits, not need the Benefactor himself?
