Hosea 7: 1
When I would heal Israel,
The iniquity of Ephraim is uncovered,
And the evil deeds of Samaria,
For they deal falsely;
The thief enters in,
Bandits raid outside
In other words:
When I wanted to give health to my people,
they did very many wrong things!
Samaria is full of people who do not say true things.
It is full of people who rob from houses.
They also rob people in the streets.
It is not going well with Israel.
It is sick and under treatment. But during that treatment new ailments keep coming to light. And instead of healing, the patient deteriorates noticeably.
It is not the expertise of the Doctor for did He Himself not say:
Exodus 15:26 NASB
And He said,
“If you will give earnest heed
to the voice of the Lord your God,
and do what is right in His sight,
and give ear to His commandments,
and keep all His statutes,
I will put none of the diseases on you
which I have put on the Egyptians;
for I, the Lord, am your healer. ”
In other words
If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and turn your ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will not impose on you any of the ailments, which I have imposed on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your Physician.
And it cannot be because of the quality of the medicines, for He has means against every ailment. No, it is because of the patient.
Israel does not want to get better.
It stands in the way of his own healing.
In one word, the prophet exposes that ailment: iniquity.
We all suffer from a deadly disease that cannot be cured by humans.
Sin ultimately costs us all our life, and when man does not repent, so it does take away your chances of eternal life.
Fortunately, you will never hear from this physician, I cannot help you. There are no hopeless cases for Him!
If it does cost your eternal life in the end, it is only you who is to blame.
It will only be because you have rejected His constant invitations,
It will only be because you were annoyed by the repeated calls to repentance, and did not respond.
Psalms 103: 1-6 NASB
¹Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me,
bless His holy name.
²Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits;
³Who pardons all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases;
⁴Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness
and compassion;
⁵Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
⁶The Lord performs righteous deeds
And judgments for all who are oppressed.
