Genesis 24:11-14 KJV
And he made his camels to kneel down
without the city by a well of water
at the time of the evening,
even the time that women go out to draw water.
And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham,
I pray thee, send me good speed this day,
and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
Behold, I stand here by the well of water;
and the daughters of the men of the city
come out to draw water:
And let it come to pass,
that the damsel to whom I shall say,
let down thy pitcher, I pray thee,
that I may drink; and she shall say,
Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also:
let the same be she
that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac;
and thereby shall I know
that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Abraham’s servant stopped outside the town. He made the camels go down on their knees near a well. It was the evening time, when women came to the well to get water. The servant prayed to God. He prayed, ‘ Lord , God of Abraham, my master, please be my guide today. Be kind to my master Abraham, as you have promised him. See, I am standing here near this well. The daughters of the people who live in the town will come to get water from the well. I will say to one of the young women, “Please let me have a drink of water from your pot.” If she is the right woman for your servant Isaac to marry, please may she say, “Yes, drink. Then I will give water to your camels also”. If that happens, then I will know that you have kept your promise to my master.’
Sometimes it is not easy to get in touch with others.
▪︎ You think you have a chance at the school party, but when it came you were not invited.
▪︎ Then you thought you would try it again at the Christmas celebration in a few weeks, but again it turned out that you were not counted on.
▪︎ I think I’ll go to the New Year’s reception, you thought. You hadn’t had an invitation for this event either, but it had been in the same building for years. They wouldn’t keep the door closed to me again, would they? But when you got there the building turned out to be closed. The reception was held elsewhere this year, and of course you were not aware of it.
It is not strange that you feel passed by and left out.
All your friends and classmates are dating, but you don’t even get a chance to speak to someone.
Others can laugh about it, but when it strikes you, it is still painful when others pass you like this. This can mean that besides the sadness, there is also a storm inside.
What do you do now?
Should you force yourself on them now?
Are you going to behave very conspicuously?
Are you going to act really crazy?
This often has the opposite effect.
To a certain extent it is okay to seek connections and open yourself up to others.
And what I am going to say now may sound very pious to you, but because it is the truth, I say it anyway.
The question is whether those school parties and parties are the right way to make friends. When you are young (and not only when you are young!) It is much more important to ask God to put you in touch with that boy or girl or that person He has destined for you.
You will notice that the more honestly you ask, the less important it becomes that you have fewer contacts.
You will find that He is a God Who wants the best for you, and a God, Who will also answer you in His time.
